PAMCoBA Project Structure and work packages

PAMCoBA consits of 6 carefully planned work packages to accomplish the completion of the project

WP1: Taxonomy and review of PA technologies

WP2: Evaluation of financial performance and risk analysis

The objective of this WP is to build an updated taxonomy of PA initiatives and technologies. The work will be based on (i) relevant crops (arable crops, orchards, vineyards, field vegetables) and (ii) PA technologies at present and in the near future. The aim of this WP is to trace a financial performance analysis based on the estimation of differential cash flows related to the introduction of different PA technologies. The selection of PA technologies will be driven by the taxonomy defined in WP1. Farmers will have the possibility to assess which return is foreseen for his/her initiative and the associated level of risk along with a risk parameter.

WP3: Evaluation of strategic impact

WP4: Evaluation of the effects on field operations

The appraisal of the strategic impact of PA technologies will involve business model analysis and real options theory to depict scenarios of future possibilities opened by the introduction of a specific PA technology (McGrath & MacMillan, 2000). These methods grant the evaluation of both probability and returns for different technology paths as well as their comparison. Consequently, it will be possible to consider the future opportunities offered by the integration of multiple technologies on the same farm. In this WP, PATs will be evaluated at an operational level building an assessment model able to take into consideration different operating parameters. The method will consider the recent outcomes from agricultural literature and integrate them in an assessment tool to disentangle the economic benefits of PA technologies at operational level. Finally, real-life case studies will be designed in collaboration with Theme 2 projects to deepen the knowledge about operational performance of new cutting edge PA technologies.

WP5: Evaluation of environmental and social impact

WP6: Web-app development and methodology validation

The objective of WP5 is to assess the environmental and social impact of implementing PA technologies at the farm level. A set of indexes will be defined to evaluate PA innovations in terms of their environmental and social impact in comparison with conventional agricultural practice. In principle, we will apply a CBA model for the private decision-makers in WP4 and we further analyse the environmental and social impact by using non-monetary indicators with a multi-criteria decision approach. The objectives of WP6 will be to design, develop, and validate a web-app to facilitate the access and adoption of the PAMCoBa methodology by farmers.

WP7: Adoption, Exploitation, and Dissemination

WP8: Project Management

This WP is devoted to the activities related to Adoption, Exploitation, and Dissemination. The objective of WP7 is to implement an efficient management of the project from a scientific, administrative and financial point of view. It aims at reaching a high level of scientific coordination, an appropriate communication flow among the partners, and timely delivery of the reports, outputs and deliverables.
